Definitely one of my faves. It tells the story of The Phoenix before it even met Jean Grey. Rachel's chronal/temporal powers are discovered. Meggan also showed another facet of her numerous powers.

In this issue you'll see one of the best cosmic battles in the history of comics. Rachel takes on the powerful Necrom. The Phoenix creates a star gate and takes the battle from earth to another universe, which Rachel and Necrom destroys in the heat of their battle.

Alan Davis' drawings were great from start to finish. Characters' faces were consistent. The cosmic battle was epic! This issue was released on May 1992, the colors are not yet that good. Too many things happened in this issue. History, flashbacks, character developments, minor and major fight scenes and a very sad conclusion of the first half of Excalibur's saga.
